How I Work
***I am currently supporting individuals and partners throughout the state of California via telehealth video sessions, as well as in-person in Oakland.***
My therapy style is:
Collaborative. You bring expertise on your experience, I bring expertise on the process of therapy. We co-create and track your goals.
Inclusive. The multiple dimensions of your humanity are acknowledged and warmly welcomed.
Interpersonal. What matters most is whether it feels like a good fit. I’m interactive and curious about our therapeutic relationship.
Practical. You'll learn tools and insights to better understand yourself and/or your partner(s).
Fun. Yes, really! There will be moments of laughter and celebration amidst the work that change requires. I’ll offer challenges, too.
Profound. I’m interested in supporting deeper transformational change while supporting improvement in your day-to-day experience.
My approach is tailored to each person, integrating wisdom and interventions across multiple therapeutic orientations. I draw on post-modern humanistic, psychodynamic, somatic, attachment-based modalities, with a strengths-based and trauma-informed lens. So how does all that jargon translate? It means I believe in human beings’ innate tendency towards growth and their fullest potential. I work with clients to explore how they adapted to live through and thrive in past experiences and relationships, particularly those from childhood ― and how those adaptations and parts of themselves influence current thought patterns, emotions, and actions. And I do that with deep respect for my client’s unique life experiences and perspectives, and awareness of the ways that traumatic experiences and larger structural forces like systemic oppression can live in our minds and our bodies.
I bring a lot of empathy, joy, and a sense of grounded calm to my sessions. A typical session with me might look like you bringing in what you’d like to focus on while I listen, validate, normalize, and get curious with some open-ended questions. We might explore the origins of adaptive patterns and brainstorm ways to cope. Sometimes I’ll offer insights and resources like readings and podcasts, or lead you in a somatic exercise to get mindful about your present experience, and how that can transform your response to the past.
